Off with her head! See the inspiration behind two of the most well-known children’s books from the 19th century, Alice in Wonderland , and Alice Through the Looking Glass, via a guided tour of Oxford with one of our friendly and knowledgeable guides. Suitable for all ages, this tour will take you into the life of Charles Dodgson, a.k.a. Lewis Carroll, used at his father’s request. Delve into his life in Oxford and find out more about this famous author on our family-friendly Alice in Wonderland tour, in the very city that is the root of the characters in his acclaimed children’s books. View Christ Church, where Carroll lived and studied, and where he first met Alice Liddel, the inspiration for the Alice in Wonderland story. Visit the Alice Shop, which used to be the sweetshop where Alice Liddel bought her sweets and traverse the city of Oxford around the university colleges, whose eccentric professors informed many of Carroll’s characters, such as the Dodo! Peek into the Botanic Gardens, the setting for the Red Queen’s croquet game, and stroll through the historic Covered Market, where Oxford celebrates our Alice with figurines of characters from the books. Alice in Wonderland is such an integral part of Oxford’s literary history.
